OUTSTANDING LIBRARY STUDENT EMPLOYEE AWARD

The Friends of the Libraries are committed to supporting the University of Minnesota Libraries in a variety of ways. As important as our books and technologies are, the Friends wish to affirm the surpassing importance of the competent and dedicated people employed by the Libraries. It gives the Friends great pleasure to announce continuation of the award program to recognize outstanding student employees.

In 2009 two student employees will be recognized. Each will receive a $250 scholarship (or cash, if the student is graduating).

Purpose: To recognize outstanding student employees of the University of Minnesota Libraries. Student employees are essential to the operation of the Libraries.

Eligibility: All student employees who have passed probation (that is, 260 consecutive hours worked in a position within a department) in the Libraries. The student needs to be an employee at the time of nomination. All student employees, regardless of position, level of responsibility, or size of unit, are eligible.

Nomination Procedure: Any staff member of the Libraries, regardless of employment category, may submit a nomination; self- nominations, however, will not be accepted. Prepare a letter, addressed to Stephanie Van D'Elden, Friends of the Libraries, preferably one page in length but not more than two, addressing these questions:

    • What is the nominee's job? (title and brief job description)
    • What is outstanding about the nominee's job performance and ] how has it benefited the department? (Please provide specific examples)
    • What distinguishes this student employee from others?

PLEASE NOTE: Nominations are encouraged that recognize both employment demonstrating excellence of job performance (that is, regular and consistent demonstration of superior performance in all job responsibilities), as well as employment providing unique contributions (such as exceptional actions, exercising of unusual initiative, or significant service above and beyond regular job resonsibilities).

Nomination Deadline: Deliver or mail your nomination (original plus four copies) to Lanaya Stangret, Friends of the Libraries, 499 Wilson Library by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 1, 2009. Fax and e-mail submissions will not be accepted, nor will late applications.

Selection: Selection will be made by the Friends of the Libraries Awards Committee. The recipients will be honored and presented with their awards at the Friends of the Libraries Annual Dinner on Tuesday, May 12, 2009. All recipients will be invited to attend as guests of the Friends.
